The Frontline Walk

Following in the Footsteps of Those Who Fought

Edited by Steve Roberts & Terry Whenham

Uniform Press, 2020

In 2014 ABF The Soldiers’ Charity conceived the idea of ‘The Frontline Walk’, a 100km fundraising event to commemorate the centenary of the First World War. From 35 walkers in 2014, the walk has grown year on year, and has raised over £1.25m for the charity.

The book follows the walkers along the various routes the walk has taken over the years, including the Somme, Arras, Ypres, and some of the ground covered in the hundred days offensive.

It gives an outline of the routes taken and locations visited, but also concentrates on some of the walkers who have participated, detailing their motivations and stories, which often feature members of their families who served or died.

Whilst most likely to appeal to those who have participated or been involved in the walks, Uniform Press have produced a book that not only contains interesting stories but one that it is beautiful to look at. The photographs and maps are superb and of a very high quality.

The book also highlights the excellent work of ABF The Soldiers Charity and tells the incredible stories of some of its ambassadors.
